Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the extracted text blank or garbled?
This happens when a PDF contains scanned images of text rather than actual embedded text. Scanned PDFs look like text visually but are actually images — text extraction cannot read them. To extract text from scanned PDFs, you need OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software such as Adobe Acrobat Pro, Google Drive (upload and open with Docs), or a free OCR service. PDFs created by word processors (Word, Google Docs, Pages) or from digital sources always contain embedded text and extract perfectly.
Does text extraction preserve formatting?
Plain text extraction preserves the words and general reading order but not formatting like bold, italic, font size, tables, or columns. Complex multi-column layouts may have text in unexpected order since the extraction follows the PDF's internal stream rather than visual reading order. For most purposes — copying content, searching, analysis — this works well. For documents with complex layouts like academic papers or newspapers, you may need to do light editing after extraction.
Is there a file size limit?
There's no imposed limit — it depends on your device's available memory. Standard PDFs (under 50MB) process instantly. Very large PDFs (100MB+) or those with hundreds of pages may take longer on older or low-memory devices. Unlike server-based tools, there's no size restriction from our side. If a very large file is slow, try processing it on a device with more RAM or a newer browser.
How to Extract Text from a PDF

Copy all readable text from any PDF document — page by page or all at once.

01
Upload your PDF
Drag a PDF onto the drop zone or click to browse. The file is read locally — nothing is sent to any server, even for sensitive documents.
02
Wait for extraction
The progress bar shows each page being processed. A 50-page document typically takes under 5 seconds.
03
Browse by page or view all
Use the page tabs to jump to specific pages, or select 'All pages' to see the complete text in one scrollable view.
04
Copy or download
Click 'Copy all' to copy everything to clipboard, or 'Download .txt' to save as a text file. The text file is useful for searching, pasting into other apps, or AI analysis.
05
Handle scanned PDFs
If the text appears blank or garbled, the PDF likely contains scanned images rather than real text. This requires OCR software — try uploading to Google Drive and opening with Google Docs for free OCR.
💡
💡 This works perfectly for PDFs created digitally (Word docs exported to PDF, etc.). Scanned physical documents need OCR — Google Drive's built-in OCR is free and surprisingly accurate.
