How to Split PDFs Effectively

Splitting a PDF extracts a subset of its pages into a new, standalone document. This is useful when you receive a large document and only need specific pages, when you want to separate a combined file into its component sections, or when you need to reduce file size by removing unnecessary pages before sharing.

Common Split Scenarios

Extracting specific pages from a report or textbook, separating a combined bank statement into individual months, pulling a single form from a multi-form packet, or extracting an appendix from a long document. You can split by page range (pages 1-10, 11-20), by individual pages, or by extracting every page as its own separate file.

Privacy and Security

This tool processes your PDF entirely in your browser — your document is never uploaded to any server. This matters significantly for sensitive documents like financial statements, legal documents, medical records, and tax returns. Many online PDF tools send your files to cloud servers for processing, creating privacy and security risks. Browser-based tools eliminate that risk entirely.

How do I write page ranges?
Use commas to separate multiple entries and hyphens for ranges. Examples: "1-5" extracts pages 1 through 5. "1-3, 7, 10-12" extracts pages 1, 2, 3, 7, 10, 11, and 12 into a single file. "1-5, 6-10" would produce the same result as typing "1-10". Page numbers start at 1. The tool validates your input before splitting.
What happens when I split every page?
Each page is extracted into its own separate PDF file. Because downloading many individual files one at a time would be tedious, the tool uses JSZip to bundle them all into a single ZIP file for download. Each file inside the ZIP is named "page-1.pdf", "page-2.pdf", and so on. You can then unzip and use the individual pages as needed.
Does splitting preserve quality?
Yes — pages are copied exactly without any re-rendering or quality loss. Images, fonts, layout and text are all preserved perfectly. The output files are identical in quality to the corresponding pages of the original. File sizes may vary slightly due to PDF metadata but content quality is not affected in any way.
How to Split a PDF File

Extract specific pages or split every page into its own file — completely in your browser.

01
Upload your PDF
Click or drag a PDF into the drop zone. The tool reads the file locally — nothing is sent to a server.
02
Choose a split mode
Three options: 'Extract by range' (type page numbers like 1-3, 5, 8-10), 'Pick pages' (click page thumbnails), or 'Split every page' (each page becomes its own PDF).
03
Enter your page selection
For ranges, use commas and hyphens: '1-5, 8, 11-15' extracts pages 1 through 5, page 8, and pages 11 through 15 into one document.
04
Click Split & Download
The extracted pages download as a PDF. If you chose 'split every page', they download as a ZIP file containing individual PDFs named page-1.pdf, page-2.pdf, etc.
